Free AI video got worse in 2026, not better. Sora shut down, Luma and Pika removed their free credits, Runway's free plan stopped making video, and the Gemini app now asks for a paid plan. A handful of tools still give you real, recurring free generations, and this guide is about those.
We checked every free tier on 13 October 2026 against the vendor's own pricing and help pages. For each tool you get the current model, how many free generations you actually get, whether there is a watermark, and whether you can use the result commercially. Some vendors only show their limits after you log in; where a number comes from recent reports instead of an official page, we say so. Free tiers change often, so confirm before you plan a project around one.

1. Vuela: best all in one for finished videos
Most free generators give you a raw clip. Vuela is built for the whole job: turn a script, an image, or an existing video into a finished piece you can publish. It is not a free tool, and we will be honest about that: plans start at $9 a month for 500 credits, with no watermark. The reason it leads this list is simple. The free tools below each do one slice well, with daily caps. 2. Google Flow: the most generous free option
Google's free video now lives in Flow, not in the Gemini app. Anyone without a Google AI plan gets 50 credits a day that do not roll over. A Veo 3.1 Lite clip of up to 8 seconds costs 10 credits, so you get about five a day; Veo 3.1 Fast costs 20. You can also use Gemini Omni Flash, Google's newest video model, at 4 credits for a 4 second clip in 360p or 12 credits for 8 seconds in 720p.
The limits: Veo 3.1 Quality costs 100 credits per clip, so it is out of reach on free; there is no 1080p upscale; and free users can be blocked from video at peak hours (roughly 2 to 5 PM UTC). Google marks every clip with an invisible SynthID watermark. If you want more, Google AI Plus costs $7.99 a month and adds 200 Flow credits.
Best for: realistic shots with sound, a few times a day, at zero cost.
3. Dreamina: Seedance 2.5 with daily credits
Dreamina is ByteDance's creative app, and it is one of the few that still hands out free credits every day. It runs Seedance 2.5, one of the strongest models of the year for motion and prompt accuracy. Dreamina's own guide put the free allowance at 120 credits a day in August 2026; the official FAQ only says "free daily credits", so expect the number to move.
Dreamina does not guarantee watermark-free output on the free tier, says commercial use is allowed subject to its terms, and Seedance access is restricted in parts of Europe.
Best for: high quality text to video and image to video, every day.
4. Kling AI: best for long, smooth motion
Kling 3.0 handles people and complex motion better than most models, and Kling still gives free users a small daily allowance (around 66 credits in recent reports; Kling only shows the exact figure inside your account). Free clips are 5 seconds at reduced resolution, carry a watermark and cannot be used commercially. Kling 4.0 is advertised, but in October it is only in early access for top-tier subscribers. Paid plans start at about $10 a month.
Best for: short clips with people and movement, if you can wait in the queue.
5. PixVerse: best for anime and stylized video
PixVerse leans into anime and stylized looks, and its V6 model (March 2026) is a clear step up. New accounts get 90 credits at sign-up and then 60 credits a day, reset at midnight UTC, which is enough for about two short clips. Free output is low resolution, watermarked and not licensed for commercial use.
Best for: anime style and stylized content for social.
6. Vidu: best free image to video
Vidu Q4 is one of the best models for turning a still image into a clip with natural motion and consistent characters. The free plan is small, 40 credits a month by the last public figures, plus an off-peak mode that lets free users queue generations when servers are quiet. Free clips are watermarked and not for commercial use.

7. Wan 2.2: truly free if you have a GPU
Wan 2.2 is Alibaba's open-weights video model, released under the Apache 2.0 license. Run it on your own computer and you get unlimited generations, no watermark and full commercial rights. The catch is hardware: you need a recent NVIDIA GPU with plenty of memory, and clips are about 5 seconds at 480p or 720p. The newer Wan 3.0 is hosted only, with no open weights.
Best for: developers and tinkerers who want zero limits and clean commercial rights.
8. Hailuo (MiniMax): a free trial, not a free plan
Hailuo's new flagship, MiniMax H3, has a strong cinematic feel. The daily free credits are gone, though: new users get a one-time welcome package (about 200 credits in recent checks) that expires after 3 days. Clips are around 6 seconds at 768p, watermarked, and not for commercial use. Plans start at $14.99 a month.
Best for: trying a cinematic model for a weekend before you pay for anything.
9. Canva: best for wrapping clips into posts
Canva is not a video model, but its free plan includes up to 20 AI uses a month and a huge template library, and most basic exports are clean. No longer free in 2026
Many lists still recommend these as free. As of October 2026 they are not:
- Sora: OpenAI closed the Sora app and website on 26 April 2026 and the API on 24 September 2026. See the Sora alternatives.
- Veo in the Gemini app: making videos in Gemini now requires a Google AI plan. A free promotion ended on 11 August. Use Google Flow instead.
- Runway: the free plan still gives 125 one-time credits, but in recent tests it no longer generates video. Standard costs $15 a month.
- Luma Dream Machine: there is no free plan any more; Luma starts at $30 a month.
- Pika: the free plan includes 0 monthly credits; you have to buy packs or a plan from $10 a month.
- Grok Imagine: video is not available on the free tier.

How to choose the right one
Match the tool to the job, not the hype:
- A few realistic shots a day: Google Flow.
- The best model on a daily allowance: Dreamina (Seedance 2.5) or Kling.
- Animate a photo: Vidu or PixVerse.
- No limits and commercial rights, with your own GPU: Wan 2.2.

When free stops being enough
Free tiers are perfect for learning and for the occasional clip. They start to hurt when you publish often: two to five clips a day, watermarks, no commercial rights, queues, and the time lost moving files between five tools. At that point a single platform with several models usually costs less than the hours you spend gluing free tools together, and it keeps your cloning, translation, shorts, and ads in one place.
