OpenAI closed the Sora app on 26 April 2026. The API, including the Sora 2 and Sora 2 Pro endpoints, stops serving on 24 September 2026 and account data is deleted afterwards.
What it was good at
Sora 2 led on physics, object permanence and prompt adherence, and generated audio alongside the video. That is the bar a replacement has to clear.
Where to go instead
Veo is the closest direct swap and is actively developed. Kling is stronger for animating a still image, and Seedance is faster for short social clips.
